AGATHA CHRISTIE - APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH, published by UK publisher Collins, copyright 1938, First Printing (states "Copyright 1938" on copyright page with no references to subsequent printings), lists to "Death On The Nile" to left of title page, 2 pages of ads at rear of book, publisher's dark green cloth boards with black lettering lettering to spine and ex-libris logo to front board. NOTE - SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 5-10% OF EVERY COLLINS 1ST PRINTING WERE ISSUED IN THIS "EX-LIBRIS" BOARD FORMAT THAT HAD REINFORCED INTERNAL HINGES - THE INTENT OF THESE BOOKS WERE THAT THEY WERE SOLD TO UK "LENDING LIBRARY" STORES LIKE W.H. SMITH. YOU SEE A QUITE FEW OF THESE CHRISTIE UK BOOKS IN THIS FORMAT AND VIRTUALLY ALWAYS YOU FIND THEM IN N-FINE UNREAD CONDITION (AS THEY PRINTED MORE THAN THEY SOLD) AND WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IS THAT THE DUST JACKET WAS PULLED FROM THIS BOOK AND THEN PLACED ON A NORMAL COLLINS UK TRADE HARDCOVER PRINTING. Book has no creased page corners, no former owner or used bookstore markings/stamps inside, clean endpapers with no staining or tape residue, no foxing to pages or endpapers, hint of dust soiling/age darkening/foxing to outer page edges, no fading/wear to lettering on spine (common defect with these early Collins 1st print books), no wear to board edges or board corners or to spine tips, no wear of cloth at exterior hinges, none of the usual dust/handling soiling to cloth boards (likely cause the prior owner removed the original dust jacket recently), no spine fading, no bumped board corners. Book also comes with a color fascimile of the UK 1st issue Dust jacket to provide protection from damage and to improve its appearance on a shelf. Overall a N-FINE book of a rare 1930s era UK Agatha Christie 1st printing. I have a number of other U.K. and U.S. Agatha Christie 1st printing hardcover books up for sale.…
