These volumes contain important documents related to the American Revolution, often first appearances in British publication of these letters, treaties and other documents, and commentary with a British perspective on the war. Cook's death and return of his ships Resolution and Discovery to the British Isles, correspondence concerning Maj. Andre and Benedict Arnold, and progress of the war; Vol. XXIV [1781] paginated [iv], 1-160, *161-202*, [2], 161-339, 1-207, [10]; contains extensive commentary on the progress of the war in America and conflict in the West Indies; Vol. XXV [1782] paginated iv, 1-192, *193-244*, 193-324, 1-215, [12]; includes analysis of "alarming and dangerous situation of the British empire in India", and further comments on the progress of the American war; also contains pp. 321-324 full text of the proposed Treaty of Peace between the United States and Britain; Vol. XXVI [1783] paginated iv, 1-367, 1-223, [13]; contains early English-language accounts of the pioneering balloon ascents made by Montgolfier and others, further military operations in India, and publication of the various peace treaties ending conflicts in America [signed at Versailles] and on the continent.
