8vo, pp. 592, 683, 699. Bound in 3/4 brown morocco by Morrell of London (rubbed along the hinges, recased with new end papers), TEG, a nice clean set. First printing (with the chapter in vol. III on the Tweed Ring which was suppressed in later editions). Howes B-906: "Remains the most authoritative study of American political and social institutions." Bryce, a diplomat and historian served as British ambassador to the United States from 1907 to 1913.
