1st 1966. Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper. Dr Rae describes the administrative system created by the government between 1513 and 1603 to control, in times of peace, the frontier region adjacent to England. The author writes informmedly about the nature of the office of Warden of the Marches, the extent of the Wardens' duties, and their relationship with other local government officials. Brown cloth boards, black title on white title label to spine. vii and 294 pages including index. Top edge brown. Light shelf creasing to top & tail of spine. Boards clean. Text block lightly foxed and a little dusty. One or two fingermarks to contnets else contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-rubbed, browned to spine, a few grubby marks to front panel, light scuffing to rear panel. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched.
