Item description from seller

The first edition of this insightful guide to pen and ink drawing from prominent book illustrator John Austen, neatly presented in the exceedingly scarce dust wrapper. First edition. In the publisher's original cloth binding, presented in the very scarce and unclipped dust wrapper. Charmingly illustrated throughout with fifty-eight figures, a number of which are full page. With six pages of relevant contemporary advertisements to the rear. An instructive guide to drawing in pen and ink by prominent British book illustrator John Austen. An associate of fellow artists Alan Odle and Harry Clarke, whose work appeared beside his at a 1925 exhibition at St George's Gallery, Austen illustrated a range of notable titles, including those by Shakespeare, Byron, Jane Austen and Dickens. In the publisher's original cloth binding, presented in the very scarce and unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart with slight sunning along the spine, further marking and discolouration to the boards and mild shelf wear, leading to slight curling of the boards and loss of cloth to the spine tips. Dust wrapper visibly torn and fragile, exhibiting notable chips to the spine and rear cover. Reasonable spotting, marking and age toning, as can be expected for an example of this age. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to the first and last few pages, otherwise a very bright and clean copy. Very Good.
