New York: Wilfred Funk, Inc. 1940. First Edition. Publisher's pictorial paper covered boards (hardcover) in dustjacket with the same image front and back. Folio (13" X 10"), pictorial endpapers, Unpaginated [30 pages]. Condition: Very Good in Good+ dustjacket. Edges rubbed, bottom corners bumped and rubbed through, the text is clean and unmarked, the binding sound. The dustjacket has light soil and age-toning, minor edgewear including chips and short tears especially at the head and tail of the spine. Still quite presentable. Better known for her playful nudes, the "Queen of Greenwich Village", Clara Tice also did a series of dog etchings, versions of which are reproduced in this delightful ABC for kids of all ages. Breeds represented within are the Afghan Hound, Bulldog, Cocker Spaniel, Dalmatian, English Bull Terrier, Fox Terrier, Greyhound, Husky, Irish Terrier, Japanese Spaniel, Kerry Blue Terrier, Llewellyn Setter, Manchester Terrier, Newfoundland, Otterhound, Poodle, Queen's Deerhound [ Scottish Deerhound ], Curly Coated Retriever or Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Sealyham Terrier, Toys ( Brussels Griffon, Mexican Hairless, Chihuahua, Papillon, Pomeranian, Italian Greyhound, Pekingese ), Ulmer or Great Dane, Vendeen Hound the precursor to the Wire-Haired Pointing Griffon, Russian Wolfhound, X is a mutt, and Yankee Terrier (I presume Boston Bull Terrier ). Z is the Zoological Dog or Dingo. Although this book was reprinted recently, it's worth pointing out, not only is the quality of the printing superior in the 1940 First Edition offered here, the reprint is much smaller measuring only 8 1/2" by 11".…
