Author Bio: John Wainwright (John William Wainwright, 1921–1995) was an English crime novelist who wrote more than 80 books—primarily tightly plotted police procedurals and psychological crime fiction—sometimes under the pen name Jack Ripley. He drew heavily on real-world experience: after serving as an RAF rear gunner in World War II, he spent about two decades as a police officer in Yorkshire, later earning a law degree while in service.
