Folio. 1784 REVOLUTIONARY War ERA Massachusetts Spy Newspaper with a large PAUL REVERE ENGRAVED Masthead at the top of the front page. This issue features long and detailed coverage of George Washington visiting Annapolis after the Battle of Yorktown. Washington was on his way to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia to report on the Surrender of Cornwallis and the situation in Virginia. The front page features several reports on Washington's visit, as well as a letter from Washington to the Maryland general Assembly regarding his victory over the British. He writes - "It is with the highest degree of pleasure I observe that a proper allowance has been for the capital share which the land and sea forces of our great and good ally (France) had in the reduction of the common enemy at York, in Virginia.-I should deem myself unpardonable, were I not upon every occasion, more especially upon such an one as the present, to declare, that to the sound counsels and vigorous exertions of their Excellencies the Counts de Rochambeau and de Grasse, much, very much of our success was owing." The letter features Washington's signature in block type at its conclusion. The front-page is completely devoted to Washington's visit, centering around the pomp and circumstance, as well as the printings of an address to Washington from the city of Annapolis as well as a vote of thanks for his service from the General Assembly This issue of The Massachusetts Spy (Boston, MA) dated December 27, 1781, was published by Isaiah Thomas and features a RARE Paul Revere ENGRAVED Masthead, with two Revere Medallions bookending the newspaper title. The left medallion contains the patriotic slogan "Liberty Defended From Tyranny'. The right medallion features two hands warmly embracing above the word 'Union', surrounded by 13 chain links, representing the 13 colonies and original states. Very Good condition with mild edge wear, including a short one-inch closed tear along left centerfold crease.
