A heartbreaking novel about true friendship and loyalty.
Actually, he's too old and his back makes him create, but Mr Reese goes all the way up in his simple life in the mountains of Nevada. That's why he actually wants to hand over his farm to Horace. He is like a son to him and his best man on the ranch. But although Horace actually loves the animals and working with them - it pushes him into town.

The herding boy must prove to himself and the world that he is more than the "half-blood" that his own mother did not want to know about. Even if he suspects that it breaks Mr Reese's heart, Horace goes to Tucson, Arizona, to reinvent himself there as a prize boxer. But when Mr Reese hears nothing of the boy for too long, he worries and drives off to search for him.

Probably the only rock star who financed his career with literature. For … A fine type celebrated him as one of the great American writers in the tradition of John Steinbeck and Cormack McCarty. « Andrian Kreye, Süddeutsche Zeitung
