The Chief of the Military Shielding Service (MAD) reports. Memories from the environment of the secret services almost always have to hide as much as they betray. Yet Komossa's memoirs are exciting enough. The officer who has been working in the German armed forces since 1956 became head of the MAD under the Social Democratic Defence Minister Georg Leber and always understood himself as a politically thinking soldier. It delivers a behind-the-scenes look at the service, in the way of working and thinking of those involved. The relationship to journalists and politicians is reported as well as about that to other German and foreign secret services. Komossa describes the cooperation with the US military. The role of Germany in the NATO alliance and the "German map" in the game of the powers is also subjected to a detailed investigation by Komossa. Much has not been published so far. Such as the amazing episode that Komossa had already turned personally to the member of the Soviet leader, Bulganin, in July 1953, shortly after Stalin's death, and proposed a redefinition of German-Soviet relations as well as the return of German prisoners of war. Long later, the Russians apparently believed that higher German bodies had stood behind this letter. The book also contains some explosive, first published documents on the relationship of the Federal Republic to the Western Allies. The author: Gerd-Helmut Komossa is major general of the German armed forces. D. and was head of the military shielding service as well as head of the Office for Security of the German Armed Forces (ASBW). Leopold Stocker Verlag already published his youth memories "Von Masuren an den Rhein", translated into Polish.
