298 x 235 mm. 4to. Pages 65-85. [Entire volume: viii, [2], 85 pp.] 7 lithographic plates. Original printed wrappers; spine chipped, top cover off, edges chipped. AS IS. Owen's paper is an early recreation of the soft body parts that produced the fossil sea-shells of the belemnite, an extinct cephalopod. In 1837 Richard Owen, acknowledged as the greatest comparative anatomist of his day, changed the focus of his work to paleontology when he began to study Darwin's South American fossils.
