About the Author
Né le 2 octobre 1957, à Jadotville (aujourd'hui Likasi), dans l'actuelle République démocratique du Congo, Janry passe les premières années de sa vie en Afrique avant de débarquer à Bruxelles. Déjà dessinateur compulsif, il apprend à discipliner sa boulimie d'images grâce à des cours d'arts graphiques où il fait la connaissance de Stéphane De Becker (alias Stuf) et de son futur alter ego Philippe Tome.
De fanzine en petit travail de commande, Janry commence à se faire remarquer dans le milieu de la bande dessinée. Il commence à collaborer avec de grands noms, comme Dupa (Cubitus), dont il devient l'assistant. Remplacé à ce poste par son ami Tome pendant son service militaire, il assiste avec ce dernier Turk et De Groot (Léonard) à son retour. C'est à cette époque que Tome et Janry sont repérés par Alain de Kuyssche, rédacteur en chef du journal Spirou, qui leur propose d'animer à partir de 1981 la rubrique hebdomadaire Jeurêka.
La même année, Janry et Tome publient dans le Spirou 2253 une histoire courte du groom tutélaire des Éditions Dupuis, intitulée La Voix sans maître. La tonicité totale du trait de Janry et le redoutable humour de Tome leur valent d'être aussitôt choisis pour reprendre la série mythique. Tome et Janry vont dès lors animer un cycle d'albums qui rentreront dans la légende du neuvième art, apportant un incroyable regain de popularité à Spirou. On peut ainsi citer La Vallée des bannis, Le Rayon noir, Spirou à New York ou encore Le Réveil du Z. À l'aise dans tous les pays et genres dans lesquels Tome l'invite, Janry terminera son parcours sur Spirou et Fantasio en 1998 avec Machine qui rêve, album aux accents SF et réalistes qui bousculera délicieusement le vénérable personnage. De nos jours encore, les Spirou et Fantasio de Janry et Tome restent des modèles, tant en termes de mécanique graphique que narrative.
En 1987, Janry illustre La Jeunesse de Spirou, 38e album des aventures de Spirou et Fantasio. L'accueil est si bon, et le plaisir de création si évident que Tome et Janry font du Petit Spirou une série à part entière. Sorti en 1990, Dis bonjour à la dame, premier tome du Petit Spirou, installe un univers d'enfance irrésistible, à l'humour implacable et volontiers irrévérencieux. Tome et Janry, dans cette série qui devient la vitrine du journal Spirou, imposent des personnages aussi marquants que Mademoiselle Chiffre ou Monsieur Mégot. Le dernier Petit Spirou écrit par le regretté Philippe Tome, La Vérité sur tout !, sort en 2019, l'année même de son décès. Le Petit Spirou s'est vu consacrer, en 2017, un film réalisé par Nicolas Bary, avec Sacha Pinault dans le rôle-titre, mais aussi Pierre Richard, François Damiens ou encore Philippe Katerine.
À partir de 1990, Janry (qui depuis l'enfance est décidément resté un boulimique d'images) s'octroie une récréation en écrivant les gags de la série Passe-moi l'ciel, dessinée par son vieux complice Stuf et publiée dans le journal Spirou. Fidèle en amitié, Janry poursuit la série en tant qu'auteur complet après la mort de son dessinateur et ami en 2015.
Janry a également réalisé, à partir de 2013, Les Aventures de Poussin Ier, série de gags humoristico-philosophiques imaginés par le célèbre écrivain Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt.
Avec son dessin explosant d'énergie et de bonne humeur, Janry a déjà fait le délice de plusieurs générations de lecteurs mais aussi de plusieurs générations de Spirou, puisqu'il a animé le groom tutélaire des Éditions Dupuis et créé Le Petit Spirou avec le regretté Philippe Tome. Auteur populaire et essentiel, Janry a signé des albums aussi mythiques que La Vallée des bannis, Spirou à New York ou Machine qui rêve et réalise également en solo la série Passe-moi l'ciel depuis le départ de son complice Stuf.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Revaluation Books, Hounslow, United Kingdom, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
