nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - It's Complicated\*\*Warning\* This story may contain triggers After chasing down a pair of rambunctious boys, Grant Cooper, an ambitious philosopher, meets his new neighbor, a young mother whose strength hides a painful secret. Elizabeth is married to an abusive husband, a volatile figure hardened by the era's uncertainties as well as his own demons. Had their first encounter happened at a ration line or in a dimly lit cafe, he might not have noticed her guarded smile. But in the safety of her own apartment, Elizabeth's smile reveals both fear and a flicker of hope after they begin to talk. Once he gets to know her better, Grant falls for her-not just her beauty, but her courage in enduring a private war at home with an abusive spouse, as the whole world battles one abroad. He's torn by sacrifice, wanting to save her but knowing the scandal or danger of intervening in a time when divorce was rare and taboo. Elizabeth's resilience shines as she navigates her husband's cruelty. Yet, the urgency of wartime pushes her neighbor, Grant, to act, perhaps offering her a way out or in a time of weakness, or during a rare instant alone. Their love grows in stolen, fleeting moments, charged with the era's uncertainty, and the fear she has for her husband, and his ties to the mob. Will her husband discover their secret before the mob collects the debt that's owed them This is a timeless tale of extraordinary love and compassion in a war-torn era.…
