ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
"How can the essence of Latin America be explained?
What does it mean to be Uruguayan?
Diego Recoba tries to answer these questions, drawing on his keen imagination and powers of observation. Is identity nothing more than a vast spiderweb of connecting threads?" -Nona Fernández
Like a constellation that branches and expands, this is a hybrid, well-sourced and exciting novel that at times reads like an essay on art and politics. The plot is driven by a narrator who tries to trace his complex genealogical tree and the geographical history of Nuevo París, the Montevideo neighborhood where he lives. Along the way, he explores the legacy of forgotten communities and the identity of an uncategorizable Uruguayan author who epitomized the crossover of life into art.
"Who really is Mirtha / Martha Passeggi, the author whose secret life the narrator is so obsessed with? That's the question that runs through this wild and idiosyncratic novel with which the author has taken commendable liberties, demonstrating the talent of one who still believes that words can change our lives." -Diego Zúñiga
