Remember The Sooty Show? What about Crackerjack? And hula hoops? With the economy finally recovering, rock and roll in everybody's ears and appliances in everybody's home, things were looking up in the 1950s. It was a good time to be a kid. And of course, a key part of every childhood is the books we read. From authors like E.B. White, C.S. Lewis and Enid Blyton, we found words that opened our imaginations, and took us to strange, wonderful new realities. As we stayed awake late, using our torch to read under the bedclothes, did we know these books would become the background to our childhood memories?
