Eton Bookplate of Ian Archibald Forbes, dated 1936, dedicated to Mary [Spencer Churchill], To Mary on her sixteenth birthday, from Ian, with her early bookplate to verso of flyleaf (ie. that before her marriage, after which she changed her name t…o Soames). Mary Churchill the youngest daughter of Winston and Clementine Churchill was born in 1922, so her 16th birthday would have been in 1938, that is just as Britain, and Churchill, was preparing for war. Forbes was presumably an early admirer, or friend of the family. An evocative association copy.
