About this Item: Vauxhall & Company, 2016. Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. From his first books of the 1960s – such as Tomb for Five Hundred Thousand Soldiers and Eden, Eden, Eden – to his recent books such as Coma, 2006, Pierre Guyotat’s seminal work has deeply marked and transformed that of innumerable artists and writers in many countries beyond France itself. With its focus extending from his novels to his work in film, art and performance, this illuminating collection of seven texts – drawn from encounters and conversations with Pierre Guyotat over a period of close to thirty years – explores his driving preoccupations and experimentations, with corporeality and vision, conflict and warfare, sex and the entity of language, activism and revolution, hallucination and aberration. About this Item: Koenig Books, 2014. Soft cover. Condition: New. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Devised as a way to indulge in their interest in literature and explore the parallels between systematic painting and formulaic writing, the artists Lucy McKenzie and Alan Michael present their collection of crime stories Unlawful Assembly. First published in private limited edition it was intended as a cheap holiday read to titillate and entertain summer visitors to the Mediterranean island of Stromboli, and as a piece of site-specific work; the location of the action and the place in which it is read being the same. The Unlawful Assembly cast of characters are united by narcissism, ineffectuality and paranoia, and like fast food’s ratio of fat, salt and sugar to protein, these stories confront pathology in a similarly consumable (and cynical) package of calibrated sex, violence and humour. Lucy McKenzie and Alan Michael have familiarised themselves with the methodologies of illusionistic painting, trompe l’oeil and photorealism respectively. The visual art subsequently generated by Unlawful Assembly includes work by Josephine Pryde, with whom the artists collaborated to produce this second edition’s cover image. About this Item: Skira Editore, 2017. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Conceived by Atkins as an artist's book, the main body is a collage of imagery, text, and graphical elements. Ed Atkins makes videos, draws, and writes, reflexively performing the ways in which contemporary modes of representation attempt to do justice to powerfully emotional experience. Atkins' work is at once a disturbing diagnosis of a digitally mediated present day and an absurd prophecy of things to come. It is skeptical of the promises of technology yet suggests that it is possible to salvage subjectivity, suspending a hysterical sentimentality within the desperate lives of the surrogates he creates. This catalog accompanies the exhibition that is developed as a collaboration between Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. With new essays by the editors and by Irene Calderoni and Chiara Vecchiarelli, the book is accompanied by a scholarly timeline and an anthology that includes a selection of the artist's unpublished writings, plus critical writings by Kirsty Bell, Melissa Gronlund, Martin Herbert, Leslie Jamison, Joe Luna, Jeff Nagy, Mike Sperlinger, and Patrick Ward, together with interviews by Katie Guggenheim, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Beatrix Ruf, and Richard Whitby. About this Item: Cabinet, London, 2013. Soft cover. Condition: New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. John Knight Cabinet London 2013 Texts by Ray Mckenzie and Pedro de Llano Soft cover 20cm x 23 cm, 25pp 14 colour and 26 b&w plates Layout and typesetting in Bembo Translation Martin Dale Printed by Donahue Printing , Los Angeles Design JBMT Edition of 1000 copies This catalogue has been printed in relation to the exhibition Quiet Quality, which took took place in two sites, Cabinet Gallery London London 10 October – 17 November 2012 and the Frieze Art Fair London 11 – 14 October 2012 The format of the book is consistent with the open ended series which the artist initiated in 1986, and of which to date approximately ten have been published. “ They are in many ways conspicuously all the same. Nine-by-eight-inch, staple bound, with white covers bearing the title of whatever project they encapsulate and typically featuring a die-cut hole as their cover design, which reveals an image beneath. The inside covers are printed with a repeating logo pattern, which also refers specifically to the hosting institution or to another aspect of the project. The internal structure, too, is consistent. The font used is Times Roman or more recently Bembo, and the content is organized into a title page, a list of acknowledgments often in reverse alphabetical order (Z-A), an introductory text, and one or more critical essays on your work accompanying reproductions of both past and current projects. At the end is a very short biography listing only the year or city of your birth (1945, Los Angeles or Hollywood) and where you are currently residing. Then, conspicuously, you never list your exhibition history, but instead offer a "Selected Bibliography" of articles and essays about your work. Seeing any one of these catalogs on its own, the design is innocuous enough that all these particularities recede beneath the informative capability of the catalog, but after twenty-plus years, this consistency is quite striking. Anyone even remotely familiar with your working methods can assume that this repetition of uniformity is anything but arbitrary.” Jay Sanders. From a conversation with the artist entitled Jay Sanders Reads John Knight originally published in Parkett 86 2009, and included in October Files 16. Seller Inventory # ABE-14285836873

About this Item: Vauxhall & Company, 2017. Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. “Brought forth in an egalitarian way, or almost, beings and things are o ered here for nothing more than what they are in the strict reality of their physical presence, animated or not: humans, animals, clothes and other utensils thrown in a mêlée in a way close to panic, that evokes the myth of eden because it obviously has for stage a world without morals or hierarchy, where desire is the rule and nothing can be declared precious or repugnant. An implicit poetry that is sometimes replaced by an explicit poetry: those moments when, above the magma only disturbed by the quest for ful lment led by each protagonist, human words appear, all the more moving for they seem to emerge – as if by miracle – from a layer of existence in which all words have been abolished.” from the preface by Michel Leiris First published in France in 1970, immediately greeted by both furore and acclaim, today Eden, Eden, Eden is recognised as one of the major works of the last century. is edition is a much-revised translation of the out of print English version originally published in 1995. It also includes new translations of the original prefaces by Michel Leiris, Roland Barthes and Philippe Sollers, plus a postface by Paul Buck. Seller Inventory # ABE-1498134413203

Its origin: a commission in 1992 for a play by a Viennese theatre. Fascinated since childhood by this mode of expression, Klossowski immediately saw the character Ogier from The Baphomet on stage and set to work once again at his writing desk. However, time had enriched his imagination, and aided by the excitement of a dramaturgical finality, he reworked his novel intently. The commission running aground, he transformed the scenario into a récit. From the succession of metamorphoses The Immortal Adolescent was born. Today it presents itself as undauntedly identical to its first model as totally different from it. Such is the game of the cycle of time.”. Seller Inventory # ABE-14286170411

About this Item: Cabinet, London, 2007. Soft cover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Limited Edition. The accompanying volume to Lucy McKenzie's 'Bi-Curious', “Gulliver’s Last works” by Pierre Klossowski, this is the only English translation of this volume. These two volumes of disproportion and trompe l’oeil suggested their parallel publication. “ When I show Gulliver surveying and pacing out the vastly oversized body of a woman, this body could never be exchanged. One can see that this sort of mental or pathological exaggeration applies to the criteria of sensibility, that all sensibility presupposes the forgetting of a very early distortion. The Gulliverian perspective abuses the relative scale of visual sensuality. I admit that this disturbing obsession comes from my very early childhood. . I take the framework of Gulliver: a relic of the child’s diminished perspective, as in certain neurotic moments where a magnifica- tion of exaggeration appears, at the same time as that preference for partial objects, which says that the part stands for the whole. Note this explains my obsession with making the hand equivalent to the whole body: this is just an instrument of voluptuousness that has no other purpose than it’s own experimentation.” From an interview with Pierre Klossowski.
