The photos show the book's condition better than I can describe, but it's in Good condition with straight spine, firm corners and softened /scuffed spine ends. The boards are stained as you can see. The pages heavily toned to the edges and there is foxing to the front end papers and browning. Overall the pages are clean but foxing is present throughout the book in places. The end papers have been repaired at the front to re-affix them to the book. The title page states year of publication 1862.

Spine backstrip is missing large pieces from the ends. Only fragments of spine label remain. Covers have staining to the lower margins, heavy wear to the outer corners, and slight edge wear. Pages adjacent to the plates are browned. ; Contents include ".also his poem of The Flying Dragon and the Man of Heaton. Together with other whimsical amusements, in prose and verse. To which is added, A Life of the Author, by Richard Townley, Esq.".

Hardcover. Condition: Good. A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy, being a sturdy exemplar of The Works of Tim Bobbin, ESQ. The title page continues, "In prose and verse with a Memoir of the Author by John Corry. To which is added a rendering into simple English of the Dialogue of Tummus and Meary, with the idioms and similes retained, and explanatory notes, etc., by Elijah Ridings. Published simultaneously in Manchester and London in 1862. Plentiful black-and-white plates, each with a tissue-paper guard sheet, with a little foxing. Stout octavo format, bound in dark blue cloth binding which is worn at the top and bottom of the spine, and fore-corners rubbed. Previous owner's inscription at first free endpaper identified by the former owner, Gershon Legman, as that of a phrenologist. From the personal library of Gershon Legman, as transmitted through his fabulous widow, Judith Legman. xxxix [2], 42-534 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.

Dark red leather boards with gilt lettering to spine. Top edges gilt, others rough cut. Boards are generally in very good order. Slight bumping to corners. Spine is highly decorated and has 5 raised bands, some bumping to the ends. Inner hinges weak. 10 engraved copper plates inc frontis, as called for. 494 pp. Previous owner's bookplate from F E Dinshaw. When the Beeleigh Abbey bookplate was applied, it would appear the glue has caused the ffep to stick and there is an area of surface loss here. Additional photos are available upon request. In a likely contemporary half leather and marbled boards binding. Spine decorated in gold with a burgundy title label stating simply TIM BOBBIN. Spine presents very well.
