Previous owner's inscriptions to front pastedown and endpaper. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Tears to cloth to spine. Wear marks overall.

From the library of De Witt Bodeen (screenwriter "Cat People", "Billy Bud", etc.) with his autograph on the inside front cover and his blind name emboss on top of front endpaper. 1st edition / 1st printing. Good, no dust jacket, spine & edges of covers slightly faded, light soiling to covers. 15 x 22cm. hard cover. 356pp. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾". Signed & Dated By Author. Book.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 'First and second printings before publication' stated on the cr page. 8vo in pale blue cloth, spine title in gilt. Thin strip of fading to the cloth across the top of both boards, spine ends pushed but not rubbed. The dustjacket is not price-clipped, long closed tear at the top of the front panel going through the D in the title, shallow chipping at the spine ends.

First Edition. First Edition. INSCRIBED on the front endpaper by the author: "To Jack / A fellow Denverite / Cordialy [sic] / Libbie Block / Valentine's Day / 1946." Rare. The author's first novel. Basis for the 1949 film noir "Caught," directed by Max Ophuls and starring Barbara Bel Geddes, Robert Ryan, and James Mason. Near Fine in an about Near Fine dust jacket.
