Production files for the book. The production files are in fine condition. The production files are in fine condition The design and production of White Trash Cooking was entrusted to Jonathan Greene, an award-winning designer, publisher and poet, and a long-time friend of Jonathan Williams. It should be noted that the production files are pre-digital, the photographs actual photographs. The files include the following: a photocopied typescript of the text with annotations by the author; a set of corrected proofs for the book sent by Ernie Mickler to JG, with a letter from EM to JG written in red ink on the proof sheets; paste- ups for the cover texts for the book, including JW's preface; a set of copy-edited sheets for the table of contents; a dummy set of original pasted-in photographs for the photographic section of the book, consisting of 31 images; a set of 37 photographs by EM with notations; negatives for all facets of the covers for the book; prospectus for the book, a 6-page folding leaflet, with text by JW, accompanied by the corrected typescript for his text. White Trash Cooking was published as Jargon 101 by the Jargon Society in 1986 and quickly became a bestseller. The 25th Anniversary Edition's cover states that â650,000 copies sold.' However, the Jargon Society was incapable of meeting the demand, and the rights to the book were soon sold to Ten Speed Press in Berkeley, CA, which also published a sequel entitled Sinkin Spells, Hot Flashes, Fits and Cravens. With Color Photographs by the Author in 1988, which was also designed by Jonathan Greene. To add insult to injury, or as the saying goes: "no good deed goes unpunished", EM and the Jargon Society were sued by the subject of the photograph that graces the front cover who claimed that she had never given EM permission to use the image. Ernie Mickler died of complications of AIDS in 1988. The present collection includes the only complete set of the original photographs for the book.
