This First Issue dustjacket has the publisher's $3.00 printed price present on the front flap with NO Caldecott sticker on the front panel. The book is bound in the publisher's cloth and is in excellent condition. The binding is tight with NO cocking or leaning and the boards are crisp. The pages are clean with NO writing, marks or bookplates in the book. A lovely copy.

No addirional printings are listed, so this is assumed to be the first edition, first printing. The Caldecott medal is not affixed to the front of the jacket, and the price of $3.00 is present. The book itself is very fresh, with no inscriptions or signs of use. There are a few creases at the front in the gray buckram that covers the boards. This looks like a publisher's defect. It is very mild, and there is a charming image of a stork in flight. One corner (rear botom) is lightly bumped. The jacket has significant chipping at both front and back, but the central images are present. A mylar Brodart cover protects it. I will add that the illustrations are absolutely spectacular.
