This Hardcover book is in excellent condition and still has its original wrappings Listing text: Vera Lutter's work has taken her and her pinhole camera all over the world, most recently to LACMA as its artist in residence. Stationing a mobile camera obscura outside the museum, Lutter captured the exte…rior of the campus buildings in images that transform the mid- and late-20th century architecture. Using an enormous camera, custom-built into the museum's Old Masters gallery, she captured the long perspective on the classically installed room, echoing historical paintings of museum interiors. Finally, with four smaller cameras, Lutter photographed various works in the LACMA collection, transforming colorful paintings into ethereal black-and-white images. In contrast to digitized photography, which allows artists to fine-tune and perfect their product, Lutter's analogue pinhole photographs are a refreshing reminder of the medium's origins.

Using a camera obscura, that most primal form of modern photography, she captures all the movements that occur during the period of exposure and within its field of vision, and brings them to a standstill. The provisional image receptacles that Lutter constructs are themselves associated with travel: suitcases or a freight container with holes drilled into them and light-sensitive paper lining their back walls. Published on the occasion of the exhibition "Vera Lutter: Egypt" at Gagosian, London. In 2010, Lutter traveled to Egypt to document its ancient architecture, including the Bent Pyramid, the Meidum Pyram…id, and the Great Sphinx of Giza. She captured images of these sites using an empty suitcase transformed into a covert camera obscura, lined with photosensitive paper. Each of the resulting photographs conforms to the dimensions of the improvised device, producing a scale that is much more intimate than in previous series. The volume features twenty works from the series, as well as a text by Lutter on her experience making the photographs.
