Hardcover. 293p., hardbound in 8x5 inch dark brown cloth boards gilt-titled, with top edge gilt. A once-handsome book bound too stiffly to open well, and is currently a fair-only copy with an air of dereliction. An old paper label is fixed crookedly to spine, find gaps between signatures in the textblock (revealing threads), dust. As is, thus a reading copy of an early embrace of Darwin's observations by an almost-orthodox Christian doctor of divinity.
