First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Stated First Printing. You don't see too many books (and Dust Jackets) published in 1939 that look as well as this. Be sure to check out the photographs. But just as importantly, perhaps, once listed this will be the Only 1939 First Edition, First Printing with a dust jacket for sale anywhere on the Internet. The book has maroon covers with silver lettering on the front and a silver design with maroon lettering on the spine. There's a small discoloration near the bottom edge of the front cover and several places where the maroon is a little darkened. There is a little creasing at the spine ends. The unseen edges and corners look terrific. The book is square and tight and very solidly bound. There are mapped illustrated inside covers and end papers that are perfectly clean and unworn. Remarkably, you can apply that description to the entire book. The pages are perfectly clean and unworn. Furthermore, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There aren't any markings or attachments. This is NOT ex-library like quite a few others for sale. And there aren't any creases or dogeared corners to be found. Terrific looking book. While the dust jacket is not quite up to the standard of the book it certainly doesn't look like it was produced in 1939. You can see it in the first three photographs. All four corners of the flaps are clipped, however the original price is present and unaffected. The flaps are otherwise in nice condition with one small light stain on each flap. You can see that the front cover has a little edge wear at the top edge and at the spine ends, with a little bit of loss, particularly at the top of the spine. You can also see the three small spots where the red color have been rubbed off on the front cover. The white rear cover is in very good shape. It does have a tiny bit of loss adjacent to the spine and a very light stain at its bottom left corner. The dust jacket will be fitted with a protective cover. While this book describes the country just prior to World War II, one might argue that not much has really changed since then, perhaps just the names (of the country) and the faces.
