[nice clean book, the only blemish being very light sun-browning along the top edges of the covers; the jacket has a bit of edgewear and a few tiny nicks along the top edge, and some very minor surface wear]. Novel based on the author's own experiences in occupied France during World War II, and the basis for his feature film directorial debut, the 1967 release LE VIEIL HOMME ET L'ENFANT. It's about a 9-year-old Jewish boy living in Paris during the Nazi occuptation who is sent by his parents to live with an elderly Catholic couple on their farm, to lessen the chances of his being deported to Auschwitz. The dust jacket for this edition employs the same graphic design (by Saul Bass) as the poster for the film's American release.
