Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 8vo., 307pp. Beautiful Stated First Edition of the first title in the landmark Lensman series. Bound in blue cloth with titles stamped in gilt on spine. Illustrations by A.J. Donnell. One of only 500 numbered copies signed by the author. This is one of the few copies for Smith's personal use which omits the limitation statement and number. This is quite rare. Square, tight and clean throughout save some spotting to end-papers. Some mild toning to spine cloth but little if any wear. Very well-preserved. Attractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($3.00), has rubbing to folds and surfaces. Mild soling to rear panel. Some tiny nicks and closed tears. Tape residue marks on the reverse at the spine end but tape no longer present and invisible from the exterior. Still bright and presents very well. Inscribed and signed by the author on the limitation page, "To J.K.Warring, with my best regards - Edward E. Smith, Ph.D". A sharp collectable copy. (Currey, p.393). Signed by Author(s).
