Condition: Fair. 1938. First Edition. 400 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Green cloth with gilt lettering. Contains three fold out black and white maps. Book has been rebound by library, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages are heavily tanned and thumbed at the edges. Heavy foxing throughout. Maps are heavily torn and reinforced with tape. Missing most of central map. Boards have been heavily rub worn with heavy shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a heavily frayed and spine ends are crushed, with some small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

First Edition. 400pp. With 23 illustrations and 7 maps mostly folding. A personal account of the Basque campaign of the Spanish Civil War by Times correspondent George Steer. The author provided some of the first reports on the bombing of Guernica which at that time were denied by the nationalists. Tree of Gernika was described at the time as a "reportorial masterpiece in its vividness, insight and authenticity". Black cloth boards with red lettering. Some light foxing, mostly at block edges. Overall condition Very Good.
