Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'The Treasurer's Report: And Other Aspects of Community Singing' is a quintessential collection of humorous sketches and essays by the celebrated American wit, Robert Benchley. At the heart of this volume is the titular piece, a brilliant satire of the bumbling, self-conscious amateur speak…er attempting to navigate the complexities of a simple financial report. This monologue, which became one of Benchley's most famous performances, perfectly captures the absurdity of social and professional obligations.Beyond the eponymous report, the collection offers a wide array of Benchley's signature observational humor. He explores the minor indignities of daily life, the eccentricities of public behavior, and the hilariously mundane aspects of society. From the trials of community singing to the peculiar logic of household management, Benchley's prose is marked by a gentle yet sharp irony that remains remarkably relatable. As a prominent member of the Algonquin Round Table, Benchley's work represents a pinnacle of early 20th-century American humor. This collection showcases his unique ability to find comedy in the ordinary, making it an essential read for those who appreciate classic satire, clever wordplay, and the timeless art of the humorous essay. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations. Add to basketHardcover without Dust Jacket. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. First American Edition. This very good First Edition copy, without dust jacket, is signed and inscribed on the title page: "For Young Doug, without whose cooperation this book was written. Bob Benchley." Movie star Douglas Fairbanks' elaborate crested bookplate…is affixed to the second front free endpaper, opposite the title page. Save for some light fraying to the cloth at the spine head and faint rubbing at the tail, the book is virtually mint. The contents are fine, with glue transfer from the bookplate to the front pastedown illustration.Robert Benchley and Douglas Fairbanks were close friends and drinking buddies. Fairbanks' library contained personalized signed copies of most of Benchley's books. This is one of them. Signed.
