Hoffman, a political and social activist, had been released from jail just one day before the show. He had been arrested in 1973 for cocaine possession and hid und…erground as "Barry Freed" until he surrendered in 1980, then serving a short prison sentence. He commited suicide in 1989. Hoffman was a member of the Chicago Seven, founded the Yippie movement, and was one of the leaders of the anti-Vietnam War movement. He was known for his environmental activist causes. Ephemera.
