Half-Leather. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Transcript of a manuscript, 164 pages, with 32 hand drawn illustrations (some coloured), in facsimile of the original watercolour and pen and ink sketches (1834), finely bound half morocco, ex- New Zealand General Assembly Library with their gilt stamps on the front cover and spine. Mr Markham spent nine months in New Zealand in 1834. This copy is one of six commissioned by London antiquarian bookseller Francis Edwards in 1905. The advertisement for this book from Francis Edwards' catalogue is pasted on the front endpaper. Four copies are known. Three are held by libraries in New Zealand and Australia: the Hocken Library, the Mitchell Library and the National Library of Australia. Our copy is the only one known outside a library.
