" Jean-Baptiste GARIOT (1761-1835) gilt als Erfinder des ersten Zahnartikulators mit Scharnier, als Erstbeschreiber von Zahnbrücken und forderte als erster die Zahnärzte zu Reinlichkeit auf! "In seiner Vorrede begründet Gariot sein Werk mit dem Mangel an aktuellen Texten, die sich in Form einer Monographie mit der Zahnheilkunde befassen, da die Werke von Jourdan, Fauchard, Bourdet, l'Écluse, Woffendalle usw. noch viel zu wünschen übrig ließen. ." Nach dem ersten Teil über den "Aufbau des Mundes" und dem zweiten Teil über die "Geschichte der Mundkrankheiten" liefert er im dritten Teil über "Hygiene und Therapeutika" wichtige Überlegungen über die übermäßige Ernährung von Kindern während der ersten Zahnung. Der letzte Teil ist den "Operationen" gewidmet. Er beginnt mit den erstmals dargelegten Empfehlungen zur Sauberkeit, die der Zahnarzt einhalten sollte, und zur Aufmerksamkeit, die er dem Patienten widmen sollte, gefolgt von den Techniken und Instrumenten zur Zahnextraktion, zum Kauterisieren und zum Füllen. Besonders interessant ist das Kapitel über Prothesen und künstliche Zähne, Racks, Gaumenfüllungen, mit seinem Entwurf der ersten Brücke und dem dazugehörigen Gipsartikulator. Gariot lobte auch die Mineralpaste der Herren Dubois Chement. Besonders erwähnenswert ist seine Idee, die den Weg für zukünftige Prothesentechniker ebnet: "Der Zahnarzt muss eine eigene kleine Werkstatt haben" (.). Es ist viel besser, wenn seine Praxis ihm ein paar freie Augenblicke lässt, dass er sie mit dem wissenschaftlichen Teil seiner Kunst verbringt, als dass er alle seine Teile wie ein Handwerker selbst bearbeitet (pp. 298-299)."
