A very good copy of this Superintendent Quillan mystery. Red Cloth. 4.75 x 7.5 inches.

Original Cloth. Condition: Good. Fifth Impression. Fifth impression from December 1932 of a book first published in February 1931. The boards have strips of fading along the top edge of the front panel and the right edge of the rear panel. The spine is also heavily faded with a little fraying at the bottom. Heavy bumping to the top right corner of the front panel and the bottom left corner of the rear panel with light rubbing to the edges of the boards and a spine lean. Browning and scattered spotting to the page edges. Browning and spotting to the endpapers and the pages at the front and back of the book. Previous owner's name in ink to the first page. The pages are otherwise generally unmarked. No jacket.

7.5 x 4.75 inches. In red cloth covers with black lettering to spine. With illustrated dustwrapper. In very good condition with dustwrapper. (d/w. Spine faded. Stain mark to spine. Covers rubbed. Rubbed along edges with chips from corners and ends of spine. Shelving marks. Not price clipped. With protective plastic wrap.). Ends of spine and corners lightly rubbed. Tanning to endpapers. Else a clean and tight copy. 252pp. The wealthy Gervase Wickenden is found dead on the railway line near Upton Bishop's station. Decapitated it is at first assumed he was killed by a train, until a bullet is discovered in a nearby tree. Added to this was the suspicious fact that he had changed his will only two days before, and both the old and the new version are now missing.
