Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. This is a very rare mid-19th century school book from 1862, reprinted by Crosby and Nichols, Boston, Mass. The original was published in 1855. This book was part of a series of books teaching reading. It in is great condition, considering it is 163 years old. The cover has edgewear on all edges and the back cover has a stain. There are two bonuses. First is an antique mechanical carrying strap with a pair of handles that wind up cotton twill straps (see pictures). The second is a piece of paper announcing an Auction that took place in February 1891, approx. 5x8" written in cursive. The book is 5x8" and 8x8" with the handle attached. Used/Good: A book with more than average wear from 160+ years of use, all pages present and binding is tight. Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 5th or later Edition. No dust jacket. 240 PP. No illustrations. Spine is tight, strong with uncracked hinges, however, severe scuffing and rubbing is evident overall. Black leatherette spine strip and gold. Text on the spine is remarkably bright and readable. Half inch chip on bottom of spine and upper rear hinge is starting to separate. Front and rear end papers and text have some foxing. The pages are not brittle and text type size is larger and very readable for its 1856 copyright.
