Add to basketMap. Condition: Fair. Canvas map on rollers measures 69" x 66". Map was printed in blue ink and boundaries are hand-colored. Subtitle of map reads: "Survey Directed by Jno. E. Webb, Sec'y. R. E. Tilden, C. E. Assisted by J. H. Winwood, E. M. Scale 1000 Ft to 1 In." Handwritten in ink at the lower right corner is "State Engineer exhibit 00156 admitted in evidence January 27, 1925, J. W. Davey, Clerk." Primary notations on map limited to "pasture" and "cultivated." Designations/boundaries on map include: Land enclosed in yellow can be irrigated, Lands in green irrigated fields, Lands in red cultivated fields, Boundry[sic] of G. C. C. shaded brown, Canals and ditches shown in blue, and Proposed canals shown in dotted yellow lines. Top roller of map reads: Manufactured by Hautshorn's New Groove Tin Roller, May 13, 1914. Heavy dampstaining, creasing and tearing to bottom quarter, some minor browning to the rest of the map, but still easily readable; moderate chipping to edges, lifting of small portions of map from linen and map is starting to detach from roller. This map was likely used to document certain water rights and resources found throughout the state. The map covers the Rock Creek drainage including Fraser Creek to the north and Willow Creek to the south. We could not find any information on Dutton Ranch, but the Golconda Cattle Company had many land claims around the Rock Creek drainage area. Golconda Cattle Co. is also seen in a 1912 district court case versus the United States regarding unlawful enclosure of certain government lands in Elko County. Possibly only one of its kind, this map is worthy of minor restoration and more research.
