Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Tom Swift is the main character of five series of American juvenile science fiction and adventure novels that emphasize science, invention and technology. First published in 1910, the series total more than 100 volumes. The character was created by Edward Stratemeyer, the founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, a book-packaging firm. Tom's adventures have been written by various ghostwriters, beginning with Howard Garis. Most of the books are credited to the collective pseudonym "Victor Appleton". The 33 volumes of the second series use the pseudonym Victor Appleton II for the author. For this series, and some of the later series, the main character is "Tom Swift, Jr." New titles have been published as recently as 2007. Most of the various series emphasized Tom's inventions. The books generally describe the effects of science and technology as wholly beneficial, and the role of the inventor in society as admirable and heroic. Translated into many languages, the books have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. Tom Swift has also been the subject of a board game and a television series. Several famous people, including Steve Wozniak and Isaac Asimov, have cited "Tom Swift" as an inspiration. Several inventions, including the Taser, have been inspired allegedly by Swift's fictional inventions. "TASER" is said to be an acronym for "Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle." Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. "Tom, this is certainly wonderful reading! Over a hundred million dollars' worth of silver at the bottom of the ocean! More than two hundred million dollars in gold! To say nothing of fifty millions in copper, ten millions in-" "Say, hold on there, Ned! Hold on! Where do you get that stuff; as the boys say? Has something gone wrong with one of the adding machines, or is it just on account of the heat? What's the big idea, anyhow? How many millions did you say?" and Tom Swift, the talented young inventor, looked at Ned Newton, his financial manager, with a quizzical smile. "It's all right, Tom! It's all right!" declared Ned, and it needed but a glance to show that he was more serious than was his companion. "I'm not suffering from the heat, though the thermometer is getting close to ninety-five in the shade. And if you want to know where I get 'that stuff' read this!" He tossed over to his chum, employer, and friend-for Tom Swift assumed all three relations toward Ned Newton-part of a Sunday newspaper. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

In this exciting installment of the Tom Swift series, Tom is called upon to undertake a daring undersea search and rescue mission that tests his ingenuity and courage. The story begins when a renowned marine biologist and friend of Tom's, Professor Hardley, discovers an ancient sunken shipwreck believed to hold valuable artifacts and historical treasures. However, the professor's most significant concern is the potential presence of a rare and endangered sea creature near the shipwreck's location. The elusive creature, known as the 'Blue Finned Whale,' is on the verge of extinction, and its discovery could be a scientific breakthrough. When the professor's research vessel mysteriously disappears during an expedition to study the Blue Finned Whale, he urgently seeks Tom Swift's help to locate the missing crew and recover the valuable scientific data onboard the ship. Tom, ever ready to assist in scientific endeavors, eagerly accepts the challenge and mobilizes his resources to build a cutting-edge undersea search vehicle.Using his innovative engineering skills, Tom designs and constructs the 'Undersea Searcher,' a state-of-the-art submersible capable of navigating the deep ocean and conducting advanced sonar scans. The Undersea Searcher is equipped with the latest technology, including robotic arms for delicate excavation and high-powered lights for illuminating the ocean's depths.Accompanied by his trusted friends, Ned Newton, Bud Barclay, and Professor Hardley's daughter, Mary, Tom embarks on the dangerous undersea mission. As they descend into the dark abyss, they encounter breathtaking marine life, including colorful coral reefs and exotic sea creatures. The Undersea Searcher's powerful sonar scans help them uncover the location of the sunken research vessel, but they soon discover that they are not alone in their quest.Unscrupulous treasure hunters, led by the notorious Captain Dirk, have also learned of the valuable artifacts on board the shipwreck and are determined to claim them for their own gain. Tom and his friends must navigate through treacherous underwater caves, evade dangerous sea creatures, and outsmart their adversaries to reach the sunken vessel and rescue the missing crew.Throughout 'Tom Swift and His Undersea Search,' Victor Appleton weaves a captivating tale of exploration, adventure, and ethical dilemmas. The book highlights Tom Swift's sense of responsibility towards protecting endangered species and preserving scientific knowledge for the greater good.In conclusion, 'Tom Swift and His Undersea Search' is an engrossing story that showcases the power of technology, the wonders of the ocean, and the importance of environmental conservation. Victor Appleton's skillful storytelling immerses readers in the thrilling world of undersea exploration and leaves them inspired by Tom Swift's determination to use his inventive talents for noble purposes. 124 pp. Englisch.
