Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. HARDBACK - A very good or better book, bound in the publisher's cloth boards with bright silver lettering to the spine. Internally, there is a lightly toned text block, else very clean indeed with a very bright inner text that has a neat previous owner name and 1959 date present to the front end paper. The dust wrapper is also a very good or better example with very shallow chipping to the spine tips also with slightly larger chipping to the corners of the front flap folds. A very clean dust wrapper with the publisher's printed price of 10s.6d.net present to the lower front flap. An attractive example of an elusive title.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. Susan Einzig (illustrator). 1st Edition. 2nd printing. Uninscribed. I think that 'as new' for both book and dust jacket is a correct classification. No fading, no edge rubbing, no foxing. The Carnegie medal band has slight damage to the spine and has browned slightly to the spine thus it must have spent some time in daylight but probably kept for near 65 years in a box and has obviously never been read.

Add to basketHard Cover. Dust Jacket Condition: Dust Jacket. First Edition. First UK Edition. Publisher's dark green boards with silver lettering to the spine. A near fine copy (boards exceptionally bright and clean with just the merest hint of rubbing at the tip and tail of the spine hardly worth mentioning). In the VERY RARE first issue dustwrapper priced 10s 6d to the inside flap. The near fine dustwrapper is complete with no wear, tears or pieces missing. It is very slightly rubbed to the edges of the spine at the head of the spine and at the top of the front panel (and at the top right-hand corner of the inside flap) it is very faintly creased. An unusually nice copy of a classic children's book seldom found in collectable condition (as this copy is). The author is best known for this time-slip novel which won the 1958 Carnegie Medal from the Library Association as the year's outstanding children's book by a British Subject. Pearce was a commended runner-up for the Medal a further four times. "This is a true children's classic. It is a beautiful, haunting evocative story of childhood, growing up, adulthood and old age. It's also unbearably sad, in a happy kind of way, if that makes sense. It's the story of life" (GoodReads). The basis for the 1999 movie of the same name directed by Willard Carroll starring Nigel Le Vaillant, Marlene Sidaway and Serena Gordon. A much nicer copy than normally seen. Photographs/scans available upon request.
