Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First UK Edition; A Near Fine book in a Near Fine dust jacket. A TLS (typed letter signed) laid in, from the author, accompanied by the original mailing envelope; the letter discusses how To Kill a Mockingbird brought changes to her life, including not being able to answer letters in a timely fashion, and how the book's continued success is a "mystery to me"; letter in fine condition. A beautiful copy of this first UK edition, uncommon in this condition; the TLS a unique piece of ephemera, signed letters rare in the marketplace, particularly a letter that discusses TKAM. This book is in Near fine condition with only some light rubbing to the edges, a mild age-toning to the text block, and a previous bookstore's small sticker to the front pastedown; housed in a clean and bright near fine dust jacket that shows some light rubbing to the edges and corners, else fine. A highly presentable and collectible copy, with a one of a kind letter included. Not remaindered, not price-clipped, and not ex-library; in a protective Mylar cover and will ship in a sturdy box. First UK edition of one of the beloved Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, in excellent condition. The story of tomboy Scout and her father Atticus Finch, a white lawyer who defends a Black man against a racist rape charge, takes place in a small Alabama town during the Depression. While importantly criticized as a white savior narrative, the book has been one of the most widely assigned books in US schools; it has been called "our American novel" by Oprah Winfrey, was quoted by Barack Obama in his farewell address, and inspired countless real-life civil rights lawyers among them Charles Morgan Jr. of the ACLU, Morris Dees of the SPLC, and Shami Chakrabarti of Liberty. A book that tends to take wear, this is a beautiful copy, whose jacket design is arguably the equal to the U.S. 7.75'' x 5''. Publisher's red textured boards. In original unclipped (16s) color pictorial jacket designed by Fratini. 296 pages. Book has slight lean and some minor wear to fore-edge (likely production). Jacket has mild edgewear with small closed tear at head of spine. Overall, bright and sound. Presents well. Near fine in very good plus jacket.

Add to basketA first edition, first printing of 'To Kill A Mockingbird' published by Heinemann in 1960. A very good book with one neat gift inscription to the front endpaper. In a very good unclipped wrapper with a little wear to the edges and some light chips to the spine tips and corners. A little creasing. Rare first UK edition in a much nicer dust wrapper (designed by Fraitini) than its American counterpart The first UK edition of "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee was published in 1960 by Heinemann. Unlike the U.S. edition, which had an iconic cover featuring a simple, yet evocative design of a tree, the UK edition featured a cover with a more elaborate and colourful design, depicting the Finch family house and characters from the novel. A landmark American novel.
