Condition: Very Good. 12 full page engravings of grotesque dwarves representing the months of the year with short explanations beneath (in German) and surrounded by ornate and a bit grotesque borders, 12 x 8", marbled wraps, 12pp, covers rubbed, manuscript title label rubbed and soiled, extremities bumped and worn, textblock soiled and stained with some edge-tears (not involving the images); the engravings are in the style of Jaques Callot, though not representing actual individuals but caricatures of various types: February is represented by "Signor Serioso", a violinist, September is "Doctor Marcolphus Quack", December is "Wolf Schweinhart deputy of the Schlachter"; bound in at front is a four page, 16 x 4", printed poem (in German) about Ludwig Hilberg, notorious murderer and his victim Dorthea Wiegand, folds, wear, tears, soil, etc., printed by a Karl Krutthoffer in Frankfort nd (but Hilberg was executed in 1864). Truly unusual.
