[?] Turnbull from Tante Ernestine Ecole Normale Paris". 108pp.: blank, prelims, 94pp. text, 4pp. "Table", two blanks; with 38 pen-and-ink drawings, two coloured, most signed "E.L.", one "E. LAVAND". Fine and well-spaced manuscript transcriptions of poems by Florian, Hugo, La Fontaine and others illustrated with highly accomplished drawings, some decorative vignettes, others more fully developed, of children, birds, flowers, fruit, a cicada, a snail, a basket, a violin; a charming volume. The Exposition Universelle of 1889, held in Paris, celebrated the centenary of the storming of the Bastille; it is best remembered for erecting the Eiffel Tower, but its remit was broad - extending generously to instruction publique.…
