The Karla Trilogy is probably the greatest achievement of spy fiction to date. A landmark book introducing and popularising an entire spy jargon to readers which is now frequently used in the genre. Largely inspired by the Cambridge Five scandal the books were an immediate success. Adapted into a British TV-series starring the great ALec Guinness, as well as a 2011 Blockbuster film starring Gary Oldman. Signed AND inscribed first editions of the Karla trilogy do not often appear on the market with the majority of specimen being 'flat signed'. Inscribed copies add the little bit of extra handwriting allowing us to verify the signatures as genuine more easily, and they bear more personality. First and Fine. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" by John Le Carre. 1974 first UK edition first printing, double-signed by the author "John Le Carré alias David Cornwell - or the other way around!" on title, original boards, dust-jacket, light creasing to head, small patch of laminate lifting at upper joint, faint rubbing to upper and lower edge, but a near-fine example generally. Rare double-signed and in such good condition without the usual fading to spine. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a 1974 spy novel by British-Irish author John le Carré. It follows the endeavours of taciturn, aging spymaster George Smiley to uncover a Soviet mole in the British Secret Intelligence Service. The novel has received critical acclaim for its complex social commentaryand, at the time, relevance, following the defection of Kim Philby. It has been adapted into both a television series and a film, and remains a staple of the spy fiction genre.[2][3] Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was followed by The Honourable Schoolboy in 1977 and Smiley's People in 1979. The three novels together make up the "Karla Trilogy", named after Smiley's long-time opponent Karla, the head of Soviet foreign intelligence and the trilogy's overarching antagonist. In 2022, the novel was included on the "Big Jubilee Read" list of 70 books by Commonwealth authors, selected to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II. Inscribed by Author(s).
