Hardback. Condition: Very Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: Good to Very Good. First Edition. 1950. First edition. [v], 188pp. This volume contains the original version of The Third Man, and the text has been set from Graham Greene's original manuscript. It may be claimed that here is the story as first conceived in Greene's min…d and as set down in manuscript by him as the "film treatment" upon which the film was based and built. The Fallen Idol was not written for the films, and was first published as The Basement Room in 1935 and conceived on a cargo steamer on the way home from Liberia. The book is bound in the original black cloth covered boards with silver titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in excellent condition with light bumping to the top of the spine and bottom rear corner. The contents are tight and clean with browning around the edges of the half-title page and second rear free endpaper. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with light soiling and two small stains near the top front corner. The edges are rubbed with creasing and some small tears of up to about 1/4" on the top edge and bottom rear edge. Small pieces are missing from the corners and bottom of the spine and about 1/4" is missing from the top of the spine. The spine is slightly sunned with wear down the spine edges. The wrapper is in a removeable plastic cover.
