Hardcover. Condition: Very Good EX-LIBRARY. No jacket. First Edition. London: Oxford University Press / Clarendon Press, 1947. Very Good EX-LIBRARY. Stamped "WITHDRAWN" on the rear endpaper. Previous owner's small ink name on the front endpaper. Hinges (inner and outer) are perfectly sound. Text pages are clean and unmarked. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Bound in the original blue cloth. Spine color has sun-faded a shade or two, but gold lettering on the spine remains bright and shiny. From the author's preface: "The purpose of this book is to give the theory of Mathieu functions and to demonstrate its application to representative problems in physics and engineering science. It has been written for the technologist, and is not addressed in any sense to the pure mathematician." [The author then goes on to request that any criticism from mathematicians concerning the methods of technologists "should be entirely of a constructive and helpful nature." Sounds like a sensitive subject!]. Bibliography. Index. . First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good EX-LIBRARY/No jacket. 8vo. xii, 401pp.
