"Few author-artists since Beatrix Potter have enjoyed such international popularity as Edward Ardizzone (1900-1975). His easily recognizable drawings enliven the pages of numerous books for children. But he is probably best known for the Tim and Lucy books which he both wrote and illustrated. These are classics, and are now being read to children by parents and grandparents who loved them when they themselves were young. In this 'autobiographical fragment', Edward Ardizzone tells of his own childhood up to the time he started his career as an artist. The book evokes a period as well as a human being, and is filled with the life and humor that the world has come to expect from Mr. Ardizzone. The many illustrations, half in color and half in black-and-white, were expressly done for this book and are Ardizzone at his best." Text and illustrations by Edward Ardizzone. 144 pages; b&w and 2-color illustrations throughout; 5.75 x 10 inches.
