Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. HUGH LOFTING THE TWILIGHT OF MAGIC LOIS LENSKI ILLUSTRATIONS 1930 1ST AMERICAN. I have long been aware of this author and his Dr. Doolittle books but this is a new title for me. Please find: The Twilight of Magic, by Hugh Lofting, with illustrations by Lois Lenski. This smallish hard cover book (5 ½ x 8 ¼ inches, 303 pages) was published by Frederick A. Stokes of New York, dated 1930 and the First American Edition (if I am correct?). The book is bound in purple cloth boards with a decorative paste-down label (by Lenski) on the cover and another smaller paper label on the spine. This book is very well-illustrated with colored endpapers, a tissue-guarded frontispiece in color and various b&w pen & ink drawings by Lenski. Condition: This book is in very good condition which is a bit surprising because many of the copies found online have serious condition issues. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled and there is some minor loss of color on the edges. The color paste-down has some tiny blotches of residue but the edges are not chipped. The spine is darkened as is the paper title label on it which is also darkened. The spine tips show a very little bit of bumping but the corners are generally sharp. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages are clean and bright (with one exception). The tissue-guard for the frontispiece appears to have caused foxing on the title page and the edges of the frontis itself. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound, perhaps a bit canted to the right. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
