Add to basketFirst edition. A third posthumous collection of short stories, compiled and edited by J.E. Morpurgo, who also contributed a very interesting introduction. Albert Campion features in only three of these previously uncollected stories. 8vo., sometime finely bound by Bayntun-Riviere in half red morocco, lettered in gilt on spine with gilt handcuff centre tool in final panel, top edge gilt. A handsome volume. Margery Allingham was considered one of its four "Queens of Crime" from the "Golden Age of Detective Fiction", alongside Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers and Ngaio Marsh. Her character, the gentleman sleuth, Albert Campion, was initially believed to be a parody of Dorothy L. Sayers's detective Lord Peter Wimsey. Campion, however, matured into a strongly individual character, part-detective, part-adventurer, who formed the basis for 18 novels and many short stories.
