Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. A reasonable hardback first edition in a rather tired and foxed dust jacket. The green boards and main contents are clean, and the binding is sound and secure, but there is quite a noticeable crease to both top outer corners (I have pictured the one on the upper cover), and this creasing runs through the leaves in their top right-hand corners. There is some foxing to the front and rear endpapers, and a previous ownership name (plus the date Jan 1941) in fountain pen in the top right-hand corner of the front free endpaper. The dust jacket has not been price-clipped but is a bit scruffy: chipped, creased and foxed, with some loss at the head and tail of the spine. Overall, a hardback first edition whose main contents are clean, but with some creasing to the top outer corners of the boards and pages. Please see all 5 images for a fuller understanding of the condition.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First. From the publisher: "Sir Arthur Eddington (1882 1944) was both a key figure in the development of astrophysics during the early part of the twentieth century and a notable philosopher of science. Originally published in 1939, this book contains the substance of the course of lectures delivered by Eddington as Tarner Lecturer of Trinity College, Cambridge in the Easter term of 1938. The text discusses the principles of philosophical thought associated with advances in physical science, developing the ideas contained in earlier titles such as The Nature of the Physical World (1928) in line with discoveries in quantum mechanics and group theory. This is a highly insightful title that will be of value to anyone with an interest in Eddington, the development of physics and the philosophy of science." This copy is near fine in dark green cloth, with gilt titles on the spine. Very slight shelf wear and bumping at the corners. The ink name and address of a previous owner and a small Foyles bookstore label on the front pastedown. No other marks or damage at all. The unclipped DJ has minor chipping at the jacket edges, but is otherwise very good. CH.
