Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 5th or later Edition. The Observer's Book of Dogs - Observer's Book No. 8. Printer's code: 997.1163 which I believe indicates that the book was actually printed in Nov 1963. The book, which was the eighth of the series, was first published in 1945, and then reprinted many times with ten different jacket designs. With 300 breeds described and 148 illustrations in black & white. ***Near fine in red textured boards with black titles to the spine and front board. The covers are clean and unmarked. No creases or tears. Corners sharp. No bumps. Text block edges nice and clean. Internally the book is also near fine - extremely clean with no inscriptions or annotations. Printed on nice quality glossy paper. No marks. No creases. No cracking to the binding. Spine tight. ***In a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 5/- net. The dustwrapper is complete without any loss, but there is some rubbing and creasing at the extremities, commensurate with age and handling. There is a crease at the top of the front panel, and a small closed tear with associated creasing at the top edge of the back panel. No chips or serious tears. There is some light brown staining to the dustwrapper, but there is no fading to the red titles on the spine. ***147mm x 95mm. 224 pages including a glossary of technical terms, index to breeds and index to groups at the back of the book. ***'All the popular breeds and varieties, as well as many not generally known, are dealt with in this book. The descriptions, which are given in a graphic and concise manner, immediately sum up the vital points of each breed. The numerous illustrations will be of great interest to all dog lovers.' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***A later reprinted edition published in 1964, in very nice condition, albeit with a marked and worn dustwrapper. Whilst the Observer's books from this period are not uncommon, many of the books were handled by children and consequently show a lot of wear and tear. They can prove to be quite hard to track down now in nice condition in the original dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
