Add to basketF.W. Ludlow (illustrator). Fulton, Robert. The Illustrated Book of Pigeons, with Standards for Judging. Edited by Lewis Wright. With coloured plates after paintings by F.W. Ludlow. London: Cassell, [c.1874-1880]. Handsome Victorian edition of this classic pigeon fancier's reference, richly illustrated with full-colour plates by Ludlow. Half leather with gilt-tooled spine, raised bands, and marbled edges. The binding shows wear with scuffing to the leather and some marking to the boards; a few splits between gatherings though holding soundly, light foxing throughout. Previous owner's name and bookbinder's stamp to front endpaper. A well-used but appealing copy with the patina of age. The text covers standards for judging, care and maintenance, and even medicinal advice for pigeons, alongside extensive studies of breeds?some of which are now vanished or extinct. Both a practical manual and a record of lost varieties, this is an important and collectible work in the history of aviculture.
