Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Charles Darwin's Copy Volume 3 of 4 only, in the publishers embossed green cloth, gilt central stamp, edges bumped. Re-spined, most of the the old laid down. Internally, half title, frontis map, [2], [7], (viii) only, [1], 2-381 pp, 27 plates of fossils, 2 folding maps & Sections (hand coloured), 100 illustrations within text, one of 500 copies. Housed in its own custom made box. (252*156 mm). Charles Darwin's copy, a few notes in his hand throughout. Darwin and Ramsay were regular correspondents and he in turn presented an original to him. It has the presentation inscription from Ramsay to Darwin at the head of the half title, and there is a violet strip of paper with pencil and ink annotations and page references and a word or two. These cross reference to the relevant pages where there are pencil under linings. These notes are authenticated as being in Darwin's hand. [ref: 468] £1,000.
