A collection of works originally published in The Gentleman's Magazine, a monthly magazine founded in London, by Edward Cave in January 1731. The magazine ran uninterrupted for almost 200 years, until 1922, and was the first to use the term magazine (from the French magazine, meaning "storehouse") for a periodical. This collection includes contributions on topics such as: fairy beliefs, legends and traditions, dreams and ghost-stories, customs of foreign countries, and more. Samuel Johnson's first regular employment as a writer was with The Gentleman's Magazine. Edited by Sir George Laurence Gomme, a British public servant and antiquarian with interest in folklore and old buildings. In the original beige cloth binding. Externally, smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Fading to the spine. Front hinge just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Previous owner's ink stamp to the front endpaper. Very Good. book.
